Breckenridge Realtors Advice: June Projects
Now that we’re officially in the summer season, it’s the perfect time to make outdoor improvements a priority. As a Breckenridge Realtor, I’m excited to recommend some great June projects for you to consider whether you’re thinking of listing your home, or you’d just like to spruce things up for all the outside time you are planning on for the summer.
Perfect Pruning
Many of my clients often question when they should prune their shrubs. It’s a valid concern and I have a few suggestions to help. For plants that flower in the spring such as azaleas, now is the time to get them into shape. Gently cut them back so that they maintain their health.
Don’t touch the summer flowering plants until the fall or winter. If you work on them now, you could prevent them from blooming. In general, always wait until the plants have flowered in full and have faded before you do any trimming.
Produce a Garden
Why go to the market when you can grow your own produce? It’s not too late to grow some vegetables in your own backyard. Pick up some seeds from your local farmers’ market or garden center. In no time, you could have delicious strawberries, melons, beans and more! For those of you who want to start small, or don’t have the space for a large garden, consider an herb garden. Even if you only grow a few pots worth of herbs, fresh basil, mint or rosemary can make summer food and drinks that much better!
Make a Fire Pit
There’s nothing like gathering family and friends around a nice fire in your backyard. Having a fire pit is absolutely wonderful for the warm, summer months. If you don’t own one already, it’s easy to make one without investing in an expensive purchase.
Before you get started, though, check to see if there are any restrictions in your community. Then go to your area home store to choose the right stones or bricks. You must make sure the materials can withstand high heat. Once you find the right ones, enjoy the selection process. It’s a lot of fun to personalize a fire pit that suits your style.
Put in a Shed
Lawn and garden gear can take up a lot of room. Over time, it’s natural to collect a lot of items that may fill up your garage. That’s why installing a new shed in your yard might be the perfect solution.
Prefab models are easy to put together. Or you can build your own with a simple set of plans. Either way, you’ll have a new place for storage–freeing up some room to lounge or play.
Have a Yard Sale
Summer is the perfect season to simplify your life and get rid of things you don’t need anymore. With the warm weather, it’s a great time for yard sales. Invite your neighbors over and see how much you can sell off. Decluttering your home is easier when you can keep the garage door open, and your neighbors might be out and about anyway.
