Breckenridge Realtor FAQ: How Not to Scare Away Buyers
So you’ve decided to sell your Breckenridge home. As a Breckenridge Realtor, I’ve helped many people in this process and I’m excited to hear that you’re entering the market. Now it’s time to plan how to present your property to prospective buyers. This is an important step because you want your home to be inviting, not scary.
In this blog, I will provide you with key factors to consider as you prepare your home to sell.
Outdoor Décor
You may love all the ornaments and sculptures that decorate your lawn. However, a cluttered yard can be a real turn-off to people looking for a new home. The outside of your property is the first impression buyers will see. This means you should do everything in your power to make it as welcoming–and in many cases as simple–as possible.
Clear out the items on your lawn, even if you personally feel they give your home personality. A manicured, clean yard is much more appealing to potential buyers on a tour of your property.
Erase the Animals
Having pets is not a crime. Most people enjoy animals. Still, when walking through a home, the majority of buyers don’t want to see dog toys or litter boxes scattered throughout the house. Even if you clean your home religiously, some buyers will instantly raise question the cleanliness of the house.
For this reason, it is essential that you remove cat towers, dog beds, pet toys and litter boxes.
Too Many Bathroom Rugs
These days, there can be many different pieces for a bathroom rug set. From tank and toilet seat covers to large and small bath rugs, it’s easy to go wild with all the fluff.
The problem with placing so many rugs all over your bathroom is that it prevents buyers from seeing your many clean surfaces. It can also make them wonder if you’re trying to hide something underneath the numerous rugs.
That’s why I advise my clients that less is more. Let your bathroom shine for all to see!
Lighten Up
You might be amazed at the power of light. When a home is lit up, it is a lot more attractive to buyers. With the lights on in every room, people can see what your home or condo has to offer. With the lights on, each room appears connected to the last and gives the floor plan continuity.
I tell all of my clients to turn on the lights, open the blinds, lift the drapes and make sure there are no burnt out bulbs. It’s ideal to have light pouring into every room. Not only does it create a happy, positive feel, it shows you have nothing to hide. You’re eager to display your home in all its glory. Buyers are drawn to that kind of an attitude and definitely not scared away.
